$3.1 Million Awarded for Homeless Prevention
South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA) recently announced that $3.1 million in Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) funds have been awarded to nine agencies across South Dakota.
The nine agencies awarded funds are:

Northeast South Dakota Community Action Partnership Sisseton $202,615
Lewis & Clark Behavioral Healthcare Yankton $194,107
The Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program originated in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). HPRP funds will provide financial assistance and services to either prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless or help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized. SDHDA administers the program for South Dakota.
“South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium recently released results of their September 2009 homeless count. The availability of the HPRP funds will be a tremendous asset in helping our 1,700 homeless individuals and families access the financial assistance and services necessary for permanent housing,” stated Lisa Bondy, Coordinator for SDHHC.
HPRP funds are temporary assistance and will be available for individuals and families who are in an emergency situation and are most likely to achieve stable housing in the near future. The program is focused on serving those who are homeless or who would be become homeless but for this assistance.
HPRP funds can be utilized for short-term or medium-term rental assistance, security and utility deposits, rental and utility arrears, as well as case management, legal services, moving costs, hotel/motels vouchers and credit counseling.
Individuals who are interested in HPRP assistance must income qualify and be homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Individuals are encouraged to contact the agencies receiving HPRP funds for assistance.
